Soup for the Soul, a Winter Dinner

So my Mom found this great looking soup online and I decided to try it tonight and it was AMAZING!!  I made it a little different from the recipe because I like to make things more mine and it was so good this had to be shared!

There is nothing better than having a warm dinner on a cold Winter’s night and soup is just the thing.  It’s tasty, cozy and just plain yummy.

Smoked Sausage and Cabbage soup

1 Package Smoke Sausage (skinless and we just used one piece of the 2 but you can use both) cut in slices and cut the slices in half

3 big potatoes

2-3 Whole carrots (not the mini ones)

1/2 onion

Half a head of cabbage

Chicken broth (2-3 small cans)

Olive oil

Minced garlic

(if you are making this for more than 3 people you want to add more veggies and broth)

In a big pan saute the Smoked Sausage and then put that to the side when it is done.

put a tiny bit of olive oil in the same pan, put carrots and onion in and saute.

After those are sauteed then you add the potatoes, garlic and chicken broth, stir.

Then add the Smoked Sausage back in and Simmer until the veggies are soft the way you like it.

We paired ours with French bread and butter.

I am telling you this soup is like a hug to the soul and one of the tastiest that I have had for awhile.  If you make this you’ll have to leave a comment on how you liked it!

Hope everyone is having a great day/afternoon/evening

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening!  I am an avid reader and by that I mean I read every single day and I ALWAYS have a book or my Kindle with me.  Reading to me is everything.  I love the stories that are written, the smell of the books, holding the book/Kindle in my hand and the places that they take you.  I have been a reader since I was a little girl and I will always be one of those readers.  Books aren’t just a hobby, they are a way of life and something I have instilled into my daughter also.  There is nothing better than to sit down with your favorite blanket, a cup of tea or just your favorite beverage and go into a different world.

I wanted to add books and reviews to this Blog because this is something that I love and am so passionate about and I feel like I should share with everyone because it is such a big part of my life.  Not every single post will be about books but there will be quite a few since I read so much.  I like everything from YA (Young Adult) to Thriller to Romance to Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance.  I guess you can say I love a variety of different Genres.

I have a planner that I work on every Sunday and because I read so much I put that on my To Do list every day *laughs*.  I mean why not?  I know it is something I will accomplish every single day so I put it on there (planners will be another post later on).  I will have a review up soon for the book I mentioned earlier.  We just got settled after a long, productive day so I am going to settle down with said book and hopefully finish soon.

I hope your weekend is going fantastic!

Baby it’s cold outside…

IMG_3052

Brrr….It is cold here in Indiana and we are getting out first snow for the season.  It is finally beginning to look like Christmas!  I am not usually a fan of cold weather because my Rheumatoid Arthritis really bothers me but there is just something about the first snowfall.  It is just BEAUTIFUL!  When it snows the outside world looks fresh and it’s so peaceful.  On days like this I like to drink a warm beverage, usually tea, and read my books while cuddling with Zoey and Sylvie (dog and cat).  Today, though, we have a 3rd birthday party to go to for our friends daughter so the cuddling will have to wait until later.

I remember when my daughter was small and my dad was still alive, they would go outside with the snow and spend so much time outdoors.  I am not a fan of doing that, I like to stay warm.  The two of them would be out there forever and then both would come inside red from the cold and Marissa would ask for Hot Chocolate to warm up.  I love thinking of memories like that during this time of year because now that my dad is gone (he passed the day after Christmas), these memories make me smile in a month that has a lot of sadness.  One year there was so much ice that Dad and Marissa went ice skating, with their shoes, in the yard.  Now that I would have loved to have seen!  So even if the snow looks pretty it has some good memories to go with it too.

Also, what better way to warm up is there than to read a great Thriller that keeps your adrenaline going?!  Right now I am reading The Girl Who Was Taken by Charlie Donlea and I am loving this book so far!  I really can’t wait until later when I can dive in and finish this.
